Summary of Awards and Bursaries

CADORA Inc Awards

1.       CADORA National Awards Program - Riders must be members in good standing of Cadora Inc in the current year that the scores are earned. Senior and Junior members are eligible. Scores from EC Regular Competitions will be recorded. It is the Show Secretary’s responsibility to forward the scores from a competition to Patricia Hogge (address in Omnibus). 2.       CADORA Education Sponsorship Plan - Areas that have no access to ongoing Coaching may receive travel assistance from CADORA  Inc. for a clinician. Criteria: ALL participants MUST be members in good standing of CADORA Inc, including the instructor/coach chosen. To apply: write to Connie Gavin, Treasurer CADORA Inc. (address in Omnibus). 3.       Lauren Dilanni Memorial Fund - Horse/Rider pair, at Medium and Intermediaire levels respectively, who has achieved three freestyle scores of 60% or better  Award: Cash prizes of between $300-$500 have been awarded from the endowment fund (only interest is used for the prizes). CADORA chapters across Canada are encouraged to donate money to the fund. Tax receipt is available. For more information call 603-778-1428 or 613-489-3257 or  CADORA Inc website.

CADORA BC Awards

1.       British Columbia Dressage Awards Program - Riders must be members of Horse Council and BC residents. Riders must be members of Cadora BC and local groups. Senior and Junior members are eligible. Scores from PaRC shows using approved judges acceptable. Award: Certificate and Stall Plaque. 2.   The CADORA BC Scholarship Fund  - The interest from the fund is disbursed to assist athletes with training expenses. The rider must be a member of Cadora BC, a Canadian Citizen/Landed Immigrant, and be competing at provincial, national or international competitions. The rider must apply to the Cadora BC President by June 30 of each year for assistance showing evidence of scores and give reasons why he/she deserves assistance.  General Requirements and Application Form  CADORA BC website

3.   The CADORA BC Challenge - To qualify, a horse/rider combination must compete in either 5 PaRC or 5 National EC dressage competitions (or combination thereof). The winners are the competitors with the highest total of 5 scores. It is the riders’ responsibility to submit their tests.  For more information contact Suzanne Wallace at 250-545-5573.  The winners will be included in the CADORA BC Roster of Riders.  CADORA BC website

4.   The CADORA BC Roster of Riders - This “honour roll” will consist of the recipients of the Cadora BC Scholarship(s), the recipients of the Cadora BC Awards, the winners of the Cadora BC Challenge, the Cadora BC Young Riders Team, and the Champions of the BC Dressage Championships.  The roster will be published on the Cadora BC (currently the same as Victoria-Saanich Cadora) web page, in the PPHJ, in INK, etc.  CADORA BC website

5.   The CADORA BC Rider "8" Awards Program - Any CADORA BC rider who receives an “8” for Rider Position in their collective marks at an Equine Canada - National (passport needed) show or HCBC Primary recognized show, will be eligible to receive a Rider “8” award. This award will identify the rider as someone who has achieved a very high standard of riding. There is no limit to the number of pins a person may receive.   CADORA BC website

Young Riders Awards

1.   Young Rider Awards - Any young rider who is registered with the BC Young Rider Program may apply for these awards. For information contact the BC Y/R co-ordinator, Patti Lippert or BC Young Riders website.

Equine Canada Awards

1.       The Gillian Wilson Trophy - The Equine Canada Junior Equestrian of the Year Award will be given to the Junior Competitor who has made outstanding contributions to equestrian competition, and who has exemplified exceptional talent, sportsmanship, and dedication to the sport. The rider must be a member of EC and a Canadian Citizen/Landed Immigrant, paid his/her membership at the start of the year before his/her first competition. The winner of the award will hold the Gillian Wilson Trophy for one year, will retain a plaque and receive $1,000.00 to assist in further training/education goals. Equine Canada website.

2.       The Dr. George Jacobsen Trophy - The EC Equestrian of the Year Award given annually to the rider/driver from the start of the year in which he/she turns 19 until the end of the year he/she turns 30 who best demonstrates superior sportsmanship, dedication and the pursuit of excellence in equestrian competition for the current year. To be nominated, the candidate must be a senior member of EC and a Canadian Citizen/Landed Immigrant. Cadora groups are requested to submit nominations  (by Nov. 1 of the current year) to the Presidents of Provincial Associations, who will submit a single nomination to the EC  Awards Committee. 3.       EC Volunteer of the Year Award - The Volunteer of the Year Award, sponsored by BFL Canada, recognizes annually an outstanding volunteer who has contributed to equestrian sport and Equine Canada. Volunteer services may include years of participation, administration, contribution, innovation or the advancement through media coverage. This Award is presented to an individual who has dedicated themselves to the ideals of EC, who has worked tirelessly for the improvement of the organization and who has had a notable impact on the sport. Government of BC Awards

1.   Athlete Assistance Program (BC) - Elite Athletes (National short/long listed riders) may submit applications outlining their individual qualifications according to the published criteria, as well as a historical biography evidencing support of their goals. FEI test scores and recommendations from assessment clinics with international clinicians will be taken into consideration by the CADORA BC AAP Selection Committee, who will submit a final list for approval by HCBC before request is made to the Sports Services Branch . Athletes should submit applications at the beginning of the year, realising that funding will not be available until September of each year. (In recent years little funding was available to Dressage.) For information contact Isobell Springett, President CADORA BC.

2.   The Premier’s Athletic Awards - Individuals may be nominated for this award based on their competitive performances in the course of the year. All nominees must have received funding through the Sports & Recreation Branch of the Ministry of Tourism, Sports & the Arts. Check website for more information.
