Amateur Cards required for all Seniors who are not Open Riders

Amateur Cards are now required for all Seniors who are not Open riders.
This also applies to riders who will ride in only Bronze competitions and is contrary to the notice that we have had on the VSC website last February, 2008, which at that time had been confirmed by EC as correct.

Here are the applicable portions of the 2009 rule:

ARTICLE E 3.4.2 AMATEUR

The Amateur category is designed for those riders who are no longer juniors and who are not earning remuneration from teaching or training in the horse industry.
w All seniors (riders over the age of 18) Sport License holders competing in amateur classes at EC-sanctioned competitions must possess a current EC amateur card. Eligible riders competing on a Temporary Sport License may file an Amateur Affidavit with the competition Secretary.
w Amateur status is issued by EC on EC sport license cards. All persons wishing EC amateur status must pay the appropriate fees, complete and sign the amateur declaration, which is on the sport license application/renewal form, affirming their eligibility.

Good News for our FEI Junior and Young Riders

As many of you know, in the past, scores from the Capital City Classic were not eligible as qualifying scores toward the NAJYRC’s because our dates fell into a ‘dead period’ between the date of the cut-off for qualifying and the Championships themselves. Last year and appeal was made to Dressage Canada to eliminate this ‘dead period’ so that our competitors could at least use qualifying scores for the following year if they remained within the same FEI Young Rider or Junior level. Last year the CCC committee decided to state that our show would be a pre-qualifier subject to approval pending.

The new Youth Development Committee consists of Ali Buchanan and Ruth Koch and in following up with them recently, I am delighted to let you know that the ‘dead period’ has now been eliminated, see the e-mail message from Ali Buchanan below:

Yes the Criteria has been changed to eliminate the dead period in July so your show 2007 will count for 2008.  Also only Gold level shows will count in 2008 as qualifiers according to the new UNCART system.

I believe those were your two concerns and both have been incorporated in the Final NAJYRC criteria which should be approved by the DCB and posted by Jan 31...hopefully.

Thank you for bringing your concerns forward and your input was incorporated in the 2008 Criteria.

Ali Buchanan

Given this positive development, the 2008 Capital City Classic will definitely be a qualifier for the 2009 NAJYRC’s
